The West Africa Oil and Gas Development (WESTAFRICAOIL) is a statutory body for oil-producing Countries in Western Africa, established in 1993 to enhance capacity in the upstream petroleum sector of the participating countries. WESTAFRICAOIL builds capacity through training, institutional development, scholarships, and the promotion of science, engineering, and technology. The establishment of WESTAFRICAOIL aligns with the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act of the alliance of oil-producing countries in West Africa. Additionally, WESTAFRICAOIL is funded by oil exploration companies in West Africa and granted exploration rights in Africa.
